Isi artikelrhinosinusitis represents a major cause of morbidity, resulting in reduced well-being and productivity for millions of people. The initial therapeutic approach depends on the serverity of symptoms and the patient's immune status, but it typically involves the use of an antihistamine/decongestant combination. Intranasal corticosteroids also are a mainstay of therapy and may be particulary useful in patients with chronic congestion or allergic rhinitis. Other options include intranasal anticholinergics and leukotriene inhibitors. Antibiotics should not be given routinely, but they are a r easonable consideration after other therapies have failed. Persistent treatment failure warrants diagnostic evaluation, such as sinus imaging and allergy testing.
