Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) as an approach has been popular to teach both the content subjects and the foreign language which is used as the medium of instruction, mostly English. This approach has improved students’ foreign language mastery as mentioned in some studies, but there has been no research conducted in Jakarta. This study aims to figure out the students’ language mastery as the influence of CLIL. Moreover, it also aims to get the students’ perception on CLIL, their English language and their teachers’ English language. The research was conducted in an international school in Jakarta, PENABUR International Kelapa Gading, and involved twenty-one subjects. The instruments used were language tests, a questionnaire and an interview. The language tests were to test the subjects’ language skills and the results were compared to the teacher’s expected results. The questionnaire aimed to figure out their perception. Lastly, the interview was to gain more information. The results were satisfying as more than 70% of the subjects could pass the teacher’s expected results. Their perception on CLIL and their language skill was good, but they showed concern on their teachers’ English language ability. This study is expected to give some insight to the schools implementing CLIL whether they have been successful in the implementation. |
