Leadership is a skill that needs capacity, dedication, and experience that requires time to live and learn, and there is no simple means to promise successful leader. We already know various types of leadership styles, i.e., democratic, autocracy, transformational, transactional, and many more. Whatever leadership style is used by a leader, one important thing to remember is that a leader must serve his subordinates, or we can say, a leader must use servant leadership. Servant leadership is a leadership that is originated from genuine feeling to serve (Lantu et al., 2007: 28). The primary characteristic that distinguishes servant leadership from other leadership style is genuine feeling to serve (Lantu et al., 2007: 29). In Indonesia, servant leadership is a rare thing, because in Indonesian culture, a leader must be served, not to serve. However, we must remember that customer impression and revenue growth are made by employees’ attitude that is influenced by their leader (Prihandono and Haryadi, 2004:15). In this paper, we want to analyze the implementation of servant leadership in the business world in Indonesia. To obtain data, we use method of observation, interview, and literary study. This paper concludes that firms in Indonesia rarely implement servant leadership because of cultural factor. |
