Atheistic philosophers seem to be unable “to kill” God and destroying religion since religion is something valuable for human being. Prof Peter L. Berger teaches us that religion is one of social reality that is strongly needed in human’s life as homo socius. As a social reality, religion is not an independent reality; consequently it cannot dictate man’s obedience arbitrarily. Religion is constructed by its believers to provide the value of life for human being when they are in a marginal situation or at the edge of their existential limitation. Religion guarantees and legitimates the nomos in society. In the end, man is not only surrending himself and obeying the holy and objective reality of religion. At the same time he distancing himself from religion through the process of externalization-objectification-and internalization. |
