Isi artikel
Oral and dental disease is still a major public health problem in high income countries and the burden of the dental disease is growing in many low -and middle income countries. In most developing countries the levels of caries experiences is low until recent years but prevalence rate of dental caries is now tending to increase. Worldwide, the prevalence of dental caries among adults is high as the disease affects nearly 100% of the population in the majority of countries. In Indonesia dental caries is still the foremost problem in oral and dental diseases, Prevalence of dental caries is around 85%-99%. The DMF-T is varied, reflects geographic and ages variations. In the last decades DMF-T was increased from 0,70 DMF-T in 1970 to 2,30 DMF-Tin 1980, and 2, 70 DMF- Tin 1990. The national-wide studies of dental caries in community are relatively rare. The objectives of this paper are to review the dental disease burden globally and describes prevalence of caries experience, DMF-T, Required Treatment Index/RTI and Performance Treatment Index/PTI from oral and dental health surveys in 1990 - 2007. In decade's 2000 the intencity and prevalence of caries experiences are decreasing, then it is almost the same. In period 1990-2007 show DMF-T increasing inline with ages rises, on the other hand RTI decreasing inline with ages rises Performance Treatment Index/PTI rate is very small. To reach target of WHO Oral and Dental Health Goals 2010, five levels of care those are promotion, protection, early detection, curative and rehabilitation should be done all together and integrated.
