The eye is one of the human senses for visual input For the movement, each eye has six muscles that is controlled by 3rd - 4th - and 6th - nerves. In relax condition, the normal position of both eyes is parallax. If there is an abnormality in one of the nerves, the eyes are no longer paralax. In this research, a machatronic model of eye is designed, to simulate the normal eye movement, strabismus, as well as eye movement when one of them is closed. A computer with MATLAB® program is used to control the model. A webcam is used to model each eye as a visual sensor. Image captured by the webcam is converted into a binary (black and white) image with object is represented in the white color. The digital image is then scanned row by row, should there a high intensity pixels (white color) in a row, the search is stopped and then is followed by scanning in the column section from that row. After finding the column, the next process is comparing the result with the tolerance range, when it is out of tolerance range, the motor will move the camera until its image is within the tolerance range. Experiment showed that the model is able to simulate eyes following an object movement. |
