The records from around Bath show evidence of three established small idiot homes, all run by women as small family businesses, and in addition a possible home that predates Park House. The Commissioners in Lunacy had problems finding out about these homes, and found all to be deficient, but they did support, and adapt their practices for, the most well-established home. All homes may have started as being for children but all accommodated adults, but they mainly provided for female rather than male ’idiots’.
