Abstract
In development, factors of employee satisfaction are considered inadequate for organizations to support employee performance currently. Its more than just job satisfaction, employee engagement is expected to have an engagement called commitment, a desire to contribute complete with a sense of ownership to the company of their job. The researchers reported that empirically have a strong positive relationship between the concept of employee engagement, employee performance and the performance of the business (The Gallup Organization, 2004, ISR 2005).
Generally, employee engagement is influenced by the driving factors. According to McBain (2009) there are 3 clusters of driving factor : organization, leadership / management, and work environment. And based on some research, leaders have a significantly contribution due to growing and improving employee engagement in the company. With this paradigm, the study was conducted to analyze of leadership competencies to employee engagement effect mediated by driving factors of employee engagement in PT XYZ. Leadership competencies are conditioned as independent variables, driving employee engagement as an intervening variable and employee engagement as the dependent variable.
The sampling techniques in this study is used judgmental sampling, it is non-probability sampling technique in which the elements of the populations are selected based on a considerations (judgment) researchers. The Methods of collecting data through distribution of a questionnaire that had been tested its reliabilities and the validities.
The results of this study showed a positive and a significant effects of leadership competencies (personal capability, the capability to focus on goals and interpersonal skills) to drive employee engagement. The direct effects of personal capabilities and interpersonal skills of the employee engagement is greater than the indirect effects through the mediator drive employee engagement, the mediator variable is negligible. Capabilities focus on the goal does not have a significant impact on the employee engagement.
