Abstract
Now a days in the development of internal combustion engine is based on several things that the main characteristics, including high performance, low exhaust emissions and lower fuel use. In Diesel engine that used turbocharge, the air that enter the combustion chamber will be compressed so the pressure and air temperature rises. One way to improve performance, by reduce exhaust emissions and lower fuel usage rate is by cooling the air that going into the combustion chamber to maximize the combustion in the combustion chamber. Cooling air inlet has a lot to do with intercooler. Research conducted at the end of this task by performing cooling by injecting a mixture of water and methanol at the inlet. The study aims to determine the effect of injection of water and methanol at the inlet to the diesel engine four cylinder four stroke. Type of research done is studied experimentally. The completion of the study is to compare the power, torque and exhaust emissions before and after injection. The increase in maximum torque of 41.7381%, an increase of 41.7515% of maximum power, average levels of CO, HC and O2 respectively decreased by 25%, 8278% and 77.78 ppm, CO2 levels increased by 32.9192%.
