Abstract
PT. Betawimas Cemerlang is a company engaged in the printing paper that uses very large raw material. Most companies that use products from PT. Betawimas Cemerlang are large company such as private banks and other manufacturing companies to make pay slips and lottery tickets. Problems that often occur in the company is a transportation problem. The Company doesn't have a standard of lot size and the material handling is limited. It cause the accumulation of goods that can cause defect. It also causes the length of time of material transportation which led to delays in the production process.
The research was conducted to give an advice which are an optimum lot size and the company needs of material handling in the process to meet the demand by the largest amount of demand in the period of December 2011. This research uses Lingo 8.0 software to analyze the material handling which is Forklift. The calculations will be performed by considering the Forklift capacity to transport raw materials and finished goods. Raw materials are divided into three conditions that are5,8 and 10 unit load. The calculations for finished goods are devided into 30, 45 and 60 unit load. The resultfrom the calculations will be analyzed based on the time to use the vehicle and the distance of vehicles from each conditions. The best parameter is a parameter which has the smallest time and distance. From the calculation obtained that the optimum unit load to transport the raw material is 10 unit load. By using this unit load, the company could decrease 84.3% of total time and 75,3% of the travel distance. For the finished goods, the optimal unit load is 44 unit load and adding 2 more vehicles to transport it. This result will decrease 32.98% of total time a and 27.65% of the travel distance. This research is also analyzing the type of vehicle to be added in the company. The best solution is adding 3 Hand Trucks in the company.
