Tourism has become one of most important industries in Beijing. 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing brought even more success to this city. Beijing Tourism Administration (BTA), as a DMO in charge of tourism industry in Beijing, has been paramount for such success. However there is lack of research on its nature and role in its tourism industry. Meanwhile very limited research is undertaken on its performance measures. This research, therefore, aims to investigate DMOs in China with special reference to the BTA. It explores the nature of the DMOs in China. It also evaluates main functions/responsibilities of the DMOs. Performance measures adopted by the DMOs are also assessed. Face-to-face interview or telephone interview were originally proposed but was rejected by BTA. Therefore content analysis was adopted to look at its website and also other useful documents that related to BTA which available in public domain in China.
