Isi artikel
The objective of this present study is to know how such the people know about the autonomy law. The main questions asked in this study are : 1. what are the main source of information about the autonomy law ? 2. what is the understanding of the people about the meaning and consequences of the implementation of the autonomy law ? and 3. whether the region is ready or not for the implementation of the autonomy law. There are three groups of respondents : 1. the geenral public 2. legislators and 3. regional government executives Respondents from the geenral public were randomly selected from all 16 kelurahan (village units) in salatiga. Stratified and purposive sampling was used to select respondents from legislators and executives. The study shows that the majority of respondents understanding autonomy as a situation where the region makes its own policies and become self sufficient intervention is minimum. The majority of respondents also stated that salatiga does not have enough potential for regional revenue and that this town is not yet ready to accept autonomy. However, despite the pessimistic opinion respodents believe that this town will eventually be able to stand on its own and that the autonomy has should be implemented as planned. One of the consequences is that government might have to increase tax and retribution to meet its targeted revenue.
