Isi artikelThe concepts of the individual and of self-transcendence have been reflected on and analysed throughout the history of Western philosophy. Philosophical anthropology tries to overcome the naturalistic view of the human being without theologizing human nature, and finds an explanation in the concept of self-transcendence. The human being is able to transcend oneself from inborn needs and achieves one's inner life not only as soul and spirit, but also as a temporal being. In this article the author sketches the landscape of philosophical anthropology, presenting the human self as the one who travels on an intellectual journey into the deepest layer of the self. while depicting the process of self-transcendence by analysing the layers human self, he shows that naturalism, psychologism, sociologism, and idealism are inadequate to explain the human self, which should be properly understood as becoming in the ontological sense.
