Isi artikelThe Medical Faculty of Maastricht University offers its students a six-year curriculum. Amongst the founding principles of the university were problem based learning and early contact with patient. A training programme is organized in a Skillslaboratory to prepare student for his experience. In 1990 a programme was developed for second to fourth years student to give them the opportunity to see patients in a general practice eight tames. As a student are “adopted” by the general practitioners it was called the “Adoption Programme”. The main goals are to integrate knowledge and skills and to give an introduction to aspects of family medicine. Student have several assignments during the days in the practice, such as seeing selected patients to practice history taking or performing physical examination, as well as visiting families with health problems. This is the first opportunity to practice acquired skills with real patients. Students evaluate the programme annually with an extensive questionnaire. They consider the programme useful and instructive. It has an overall rating of 6,9 ( scale 1 bad-10 excellent). While some details remain to be improved, the Adoption Programme became a regular part of the Maastricht medical curriculum in 1996.
