Abstract
Global trade imbalance in the culture commodity field has showed the new debate about the real effect of culture content in one-way culture of the culture recipient The debate in the culture implications from the globalization in general has characteristics in two ways, namely: culture imperialism perspective that emphasizes the domination and the hegemony and the globalization approach which emphasize the changes in culture, inter-connection, and diversity. This study examined how the text meaning of Benny & Mice cartoon as the social respresentation of Jakarta's people; was the cartoon had become the proletar advocacy tool or as the power hegemony's tool. Benny & Mice cartoon publishs by Kompas newspaper in the cartoon column every Sunday edition. This research used the qualitative approach with a critical perspective, also with theory and analysis method of Roland Barthes's theory of semiotics, a sign system that reflects the assumptions of particular community in a certain time. Barthes develops two stages of sign that allow many-level meaning of result, which are the denotation stage and connotation stage. Result showed that Benny & Mice cartoon is an proletar advocacy's tool and as the autocriticts of global capitalism hegemony.
