Azooxhantellae soft corals, Dendronephtya sp. can not survive in artificial habitat because it depends on phytoplankton supply. Therefore, finding the algae fed to Dendronephtya sp. is interesting to investigate. The aim of this study was to isolate and identify the algae from Dendronephtya sp. and to determine the appropriate medium and alkalinity for growing the isolate. Two kinds of algae (Nannochloris sp. and Navicula sp.) and one kind of bacterium (Cyanobacteria) were isolated from Dendronephtya sp.. Nannochloris sp. was chosen to be cultivated. Cultivation of the algae was conducted using a complete random design with two factors. The first factor was type of medium namely, f/2 medium and GPM. The second factor was alkalinity level with three levels (KH10, KH14, and KH18). There was no interaction between medium type and alkalinity levels (p>0.05) except on the seventh day. F/2 medium showed faster and higher growth. However, GPM showed more durable growth. Alkalinity level KH18 achieved the highest density. The highest density (2.73 x106 cells / ml) was obtained with f/2 medium on alkalinity level 18. |
