After the oil boom had passed, the government experienced financial difficulties supporting development programmes. For this reason, it engaged in deregulation aimed at mobilizing community funds through the banking sector. deregulation has given rise to an increased number of banks. This in turn has led to increased funding being held in saving and available for priority projects. One satisfying aspect of deregulation has been the increase from year to year of investment credit allocations.
