Isi artikelMalay, essentially the same as Bahasa Indonesia, has been made the official language of Malaysia by deliberate planning and policy, even though there has been a dramatic shift in demography from almost 100% Malays 150 years ago to 55% in West Malaysia in 1980 (83% in Sabah and 69 in Sarawak). Though the majority are Malay speakers, for many, the official Johor-Riau literary dialect used by the media ad government offices is a second dialect.
