An optics misconception test was administered to 112 students in a biology teacher education program and to 78 5th grade primary school teachers who teach optics as part of the 5th grade science curriculum. The tests consisted of 30 multiple choice items where some items demanded a written explanation. 30 students were interviewed to study their conceptions more in-depth.
