The need for greater investment in Science and Technology (S&T) human resources is a must for Indonesia. The reason is simply because Indonesian Science and Technology (S&T) development are still lag behind compared to other countries in the region. Of the many S&T disciplines, the quality of human resources in the area of defense and security has been considered quite low. This is indicated partly from the fact of the present dependency of the country on the import defense technology. Using content analysis and focus group discussion methods, this study found that at least there are seven S&T disciplines related to Defense and Security that need further improvement in their quality of human resources, including electronics, instrumentation, computer science, aeronautics and materials. Therefore, a greater attention toward the investment of human resources in these S&T disciplines are critical in order to reach self reliance in defense and security technological development.
