Background: Metastatic brain tumor was the common type of brain tumors with poor prognosis. The knowledge about pronogsis is needed for planning of further management and giving adequate information for the patient and families. Aim: Literature review for the prognosis of metastatic brain tumor. Result: This review showed the median survival time of metastatic brain tumor in most cases was less than 12 months. Poor Karnofsky Performance Status and uncontrolled primary tumor were identified as poor prognostic factors. Initial evaluation about prognosis is needed for giving appropriate management. Conclusion: The prognosis of metastatic brain tumor was poor. Initial evaluation of in patients with metastatic brain tumor should cover the performance status, the number of intraserebral lesion, and the status of primary tumors.
