Abstract
Paper industry is one of the highest capacity manufacturers which is really strict in controlling its paper quality. When a defect on a product is detected, it should be inspected where the trouble comes from. It has been discovered that the imperfection on the surface of paper roll could issue some wrinkle in the produced paper. As seen on the data, 30% of total defect occurrence is rubber defect. This is caused by some defect on the unused paper rolls which have been put directly on the ground of production area. Paper roll delivers paper sheet along the paper machine to produce a jumbo roll. Therefore, it is important to keep its surface in a good condition. Designing a storage device to be placed at production area is an absolute solution for this study case. It can solve the issue of inappropriate storage method. Roll storage should be able to protect the sensitive part of roll, which is identified as rubber. The holder part must be located on either shaft or bearing, in order to confine from its surrounding. The other important detail that a designer has to pay attention on is the strength of the construction. Realization of the new storage system is a preventive action that could eliminate the defect which comes from paper roll. Since it is equipped with integrated supporting parts, this roll keeper can save some loading time. Thoroughly, the amount of the defects are decreased and eventually the whole new system would increase productivity. Everyone is going to notice a significant improvement by having this storage product.
