This article summarises the pharmacological properties, bacteriological activity, clinical efficacy, and tolerability of anidulafungin-a semi-synthetic product derived from Aspergillus nidulans. At this point, there is little that differentiates this drug from the other members of the echinocandin class of antifungal agents in terms of its spectrum of activity, clinical efficacy and safety profile. However, its predominant clearance from the body via auto-biodegradation renders it unique among echinocandins for not requiring dosage adjustments for either renal or hepatic impairment.
