Low-dose combined oral contraceptives (COCs) are highly effective reversible oral contraceptives that have additional, well-esablished non-contraceptive health benefits and a favourable side-effect profile. These benefits, together with the ease of use, have made them the most commonly used contraceptive method worldwide. The levonorgestrel 100 µg/ethinylostradiol 20 µg combined formulation is one of the lowest-dose contraceptives licensed for use.
