Prostate cancer constitutes a major health problem. Increasing age is the strongest predeterminant for the development of prostate cancer. Virtual;y all cancer are adenocarcinomas. Often, there are no presenting symptoms. Investigations such as the serum prostate-spesific antigen level, digital rectal examination and biopsies via a transrectal ultrasount probe are required for diagnosis. Staging, if required, consists of MRI/CT for locally advanced diseas and/or a bone scan for detection of bony metastases. Management depends largely on the stage of the disease. Hormonal therapy, such as luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone analogues and anti-androgens, are used in locally advanced and metastatic disease.
