Abstract
Flutter is a dynamic aeroelastic phenomenon that can cause catastrophic failure in an aircraft’s wing structure. Therefore, the consideration offlutter is one of the steps that must be carried out when designing an aircraft‘s wing. In this final project, a numerical model is developed to predict the flutter speed of an airfoil with two degrees of freedom induced by the unsteady aerodynamic loads. The model is created using the state-space method, which consist of the structural model and the aerodynamic model. From these two components, the numerical model of the flutter is obtained by analyzing the eigenvalue of the dynamic matrix. Validation of the numerical model achieved by comparing its output with some of the results of previous researchers and with experimental results. This comparison demonstrates that the numerical model is well formulated and valid. Next, a sensitivity analysis is conducted to determine the aeroelastic parameters that have the greatest influence on flutter speed, which involves changing one parameter at a time while keeping all others constant. The results show that the parameter with the greatest influence on flutter speed is the center of gravity.
