Abstract
Teaching a course of Translation in an English Applied Linguistics program may present uniqueness. The course itself does not specifically aim at producing professional translators; rather it facilitates its participants to implement relevant practical and theoretical approaches to translation and translation studies, including the teaching of translation and legal translation. As a consequence, the course only lasts for one semester. Moreover, the students, who may come from various educational background and professional experiences, are not always accustomed to doing translation although at least they are the audience of translation works. This article will briefly discuss about integrating selective and analytical reading in exploring the teaching and researching of translation in a two-session-guess lecturing at the Graduate School of English Applied Linguistics Program at Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. The application of the reading skills into the lecturing was mainly intended for acquainting students with the initial steps in research while offering them various possible topics about translation for their future thesis writing.
