Waste is a by-product of mankind's chosen way of life. The problems associated with waste are closely connected with both the development of industry and the consumption patterns of society, for both tend to produce non-organic waste which is not easily disposed of. This effect has not been accompanied by effort towards means of collection and disposal of waste which are safe for our living environment. We need awareness on the part of the various groups concerned to put into practice a number of possible alternatives in line with the capacities and situation of local conditions. One effort is promotion of the use of waste as a fertilizer and in the service of home and craft industries.
