Isi artikel
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child took 10 years to draft. Its final content represents a shift from earlier thinking in the field of children's rights. The substantive articles of the Convention guarantee to children the full range of human rights and also set an international precedent by the extent to which they focus on the rights of the individual child and provide a non paternalistic attitude toward that child. The significance of the Convention for social scientists lies primarily in the way in which the drafters have paid attention to the psychological and physical development of the child toward adulthood. Social scientists undoubtedly will be able to contribute both to the implementation and the interpretation of the Convention through their adherence to its standards, their research. their political and professional advocacy. and their role in the education of children about their rights.
