Abstract
Background. Adolescent period is a dinamic development phase in one’s life. One of many problems that faced by adolescent is a sexual behaviour problem, such as petting and sexual intercourse. This behaviour can bring negative effects in their life, such as unplanned pregnancy and sexual transmitted disease (ex : HIV/AIDS). Depkes RI (2009) stated that HIV/AIDS number is largest in adolescent in between 20-29 years of age. With that considerations, writer will research factors that influencing the sexual behaviour, especially petting, in 2007 entrance university students whose age are in between 15-24 years.
Objective. To know dating and sexual behaviour, especially petting in 2007 entrance students and factors that influencing the behaviour.
Scheme. This research is based on Health Belief Model (HBM) theory which one of many psychology models explaining human behaviour. In this research, that means petting behaviour. HBM theory explains that influencing factors of one’s behaviour are socio-demografic factor (age, sex, economic status, daily activities, religion belief, parental status, dating status), alcohol consumption, pornography, double standard and patients perceptions of the behaviour. So, the dependent variable in this research is petting behaviour, and the independent factors are age, sex, economic status, daily activities, religion belief, parental status, dating status, alcohol consumption, pornography, double standard and perceptions of petting behaviour.
Methodology. The population of this research is 2007 entrance students of Medical Faculty of Atma Jaya Catholic Indonesia University. Only 130 people of 145 people in 2007 entrance students followed this research. The research design is cross-sectional research with survey method using questionaire as the instrument. Data analysis were done by using version 15 of SPSS programe. Data was analysed in univariate and bivariate. The statistic test used was Chi-Square with confidence interval at 95%.
Result. From univariate analysis, found that 50.8% people are female, 67.7% are 20 years old. 62.3% people had dating experience and 14 people (10.8%) had petting experience. Based on bivariate analysis using Chi-Square statistic test, factors that influencing petting behaviour are religion belief (p-value = 0.049), daily activities (p-value = 0.012), economic status (p-value = 0.028), knowledge of female fertility period (p-value = 0.036), perceptions of petting behaviour (p-value = 0.000), dan dating status (p-value = 0.000).
Conclusion. As many as 14 people of 130 people (10.8%) of 2007 entrance students had petting experience. Factors that influencing petting behaviour are religion belief, daily activities, economic status, knowledge of female fertility period, perceptions of petting behaviour, dan dating status.
Recommendation. The result of this research can be used to make a modul and giving information about risky sexual behaviour, especially petting and factors that influencing it. This research can also be used as a beginning of another research about factors influencing petting behaviour and its reasons.
