Isi artikelIn this article it is suggested that mainstream industrial relations theory, because it is wedded to a 'national' analytical perspective or conceptual lens that leaves little room for 'the international', is ill-equipped to analyse globalisation. In contrast to the 'national lens' through which globalisation is usually studied, an 'international political economy more particularly is explored. The article then examines a number of implications of the international political economy approach for industrial relations theory, arguing that such a perspective permits a rethinking of the traditional dichotomy between 'national' and 'international' industrial relations, of the nature of work regulation, of the definition of industrial relations, and of its normative underpinnings.
