Public service organization's increasingly are considering diversification into new "for-profit "or "high-profit" enterprises. Such undertakings offer a number of potential benefits to both the organization and the public. They also have potential problems. This article examines some of the major types of benefits and problems in hopes that both public service managers and public policy makers will give a blaanced consideration to these diversification efforts.
