Abstract
The purpose of the study is to analyze writing tasks in the Indonesian English textbooks for grade X. It evaluates the quantity and quality of writing tasks in each textbook from both the School Based Curriculum (SBC) and theory of writing pedagogy perspectives. This is done by writing tasks found in five textbooks, which are Interlaguage Grade X, Developing English Competencies Grade X, Look Ahead Grade X, Progress Grade X and Linked to the World Grade X. These books are based on School Based Curriculum.
In analyzing the types of writing tasks the writer chooses the classification by APU Language Performance Surveys (1981) namely “to describe”, “to narrate”, “to record/ report”, “to explain/ direct”, “to persuade”, “to request”, “to plan”, and “to edit”. In analyzing the quality of the writing tasks, whether they satisfy the national
curriculum legalized by Departemen Pendidikan Nasional, the writer uses the Standard Competence and Basic Competence for writing skill in School Based Curriculum (SBC) for Grade X. In addition, the writing tasks are analyzed by using the criteria of good writing tasks proposed by Commission on English Recommendation (1965) and Ruth and Murphy (1988) as the parametric references.
