Abstract
The Standards for the 21st-Century Learner include four broad standards within which are four strands. To prepare a collection of lesson plans, the editors wanted to know where sample lesson plans were most needed. When asked to rank order which of the four standards there was most need for examples, 93% of respondents selected either Standard 1 (Inquire, think critically, and gain knowledge) or Standard 2 (Draw conclusions, make informed decisions, apply knowledge to new situations, and create knowledge) with Standard 1 receiving top rank by 53% of respondents and Standard 2 receiving top rank by 40% of respondents. However, when qualitative data were explored relative to this question, many respondents indicated that they made their choice based on the forced choice nature of the question.

Because much of the content that applies to a particular range of grades may provide a catalyst idea that could be adapted for different grade levels, we suggest that you read the lesson plans that are presented for different levels. Most lessons have been edited to complement the book’s presentation format and space requirements with approval from contributing authors.
