Heart rate is a key determinant of myocardial ischaemia. Ivabradine is a novel drug that lowers heart rate via inhibition of if channel in sinus node and has been clinically shown to have anti-ischaemic efficacy comparable to atenolol or amlodipine. It has a very good safety profile and offers an attractive therapy for patients with stable angina, especially when heart rate control is not optimal.
