Isi artikel
Death is an instantaneous event, yet risk factors for mortality can often be examined from a life-course perspective. This is especially the case for today's modern, industrialized countries where most deaths are caused by degenerative diseases that evolve over a long period of time. Among all deaths in the United States in 1981, the proportion of deaths at age 65 and over was 62 percent (Myers 1989). because of the aging of the US population and the compression of mortality into older ages, the corresponding proportion increased to 74 percent in 2002.
