A 29-year-old pregnant woman was transferred to this hospital at 38 weeks 4 days of gestation because of a large mass that had been detected in the fetal oral cavity by ultrasonography. The patient was a primigravida and had received routine prenatal care at another facility, including ABO blood typing (type O, Rh-negative, antibody-negative), an oral glucose-tolerance test (abnormal results), and a screening test for group B streptococcus (positive); screening tests for syphilis and viral hepatitis, types B and C, were negative.
