People living in this world will face the inevitability of writing. They are obliged to write many things such as newspaper columns, letters, e-mails and many more. This means that writing has already become a part of daily communication abilities. Nevertheless, the communication through the written language possesses a certain quantity of conclusiveness and demands real ability from the writer if it is not to be effective. As stated by Valette (1977), “Of the four language skills, writing may truly be considered the most sophisticated.” Thus writing include several factors like word choice, use of appropriate grammar (such as subject-verb agreement, tense, and article use), syntax (word order), mechanics (e.g., punctuation, spelling and handwriting), and organization of ideas into a coherent and cohesive form (Harmer, 2000). In addition to the sophistication of writing, teaching writing always includes reinforcement, language development, learning style and most importantly writing as a skill apart from the other language skills (Harmer, 2000). Moreover, when students are studying writing in the early year of their foreign language education, the students will find that like any other literary skills, writing is considered as the most complex skills to acquire (Sugiharto, 2007). In writing we are asked to follow the steps in having a good result. We have to make a draft, arrange the sequences, notice the grammar, the punctuation and consider the organization of thoughts. |
