Reading is a psycholinguistic guessing game (Goodman, 1996). Therefore, reading process is not only about recognizing the words, but it is also about constructing meaning. It is an active fluent process since it involves both the reader and the reading material in building meaning (Anderson, 1999). This reading process then guides readers into different purposes. One of the various purposes of reading is reading for comprehension. Reading for general comprehension is the most essential purpose of reading since it supports and underlies most other purposes (Grabe & Stoller, 2002). According to them, reading for general comprehension is related to the ability of understanding the information in a text and interpreting that information appropriately. |
