Isi artikel
All headteachers face considerable external accountability pressures both to secure and sustain school improvement and for their schools to become more effective. Although there is no agreed understanding of what it means to become more effective or to improve _performance, school improvement and school effectiveness are critical aspects of school leadership and therefore the work of all headteachers. It is important therefore to clarify the characteristics of the twin fields of school improvement and school effectiveness, before considering how they particularly impact upon the work of recently appointed headteachers.
