The National College for School Leadership was set up in November 2000. It now runs some 24 different school leadership programmes and funding for it from the DfES has increased from £29.2m in 2001- 2 to £111.3m 2004-5. In its short life it has become seen, in Tony Bush’s words as “a major influence, arguably the major influence, on school leadership, management and administration in England and beyond” (Bush 2004: 243).
