Isi artikel
Around the year 375BC a man sitting close to the Mediterranean Sea spent a lot of time thinking, discussing and writing about his main concerns: the individual, the state, knowledge, justice and the role of education in developing the ideal citizen, a person who knows his place in society, a person who is ‘educated’ and just. He drew up a curriculum including subjects like music, mathematics, geometry, harmonics, ethics, politics, the arts, crafts, dialectic and gymnastics. He actually specified who should study what and for how long. Education, which for him was to be provided by the state, was vital for the well-functioning of his ideal citystate. Education was the means by which he could attain his vision.
