Abstract
PT. X is a manufacturing company that produces helmets. This company have much of defects problem in sewing work station, especially on the kind of untidy hemming defect. Therefore, it needs an improvement in hemming machine to solve these
problems.the problem can be solved by using the PDCA method, making plan what to do, the implementation of improvements, check out the results of implementation, and provides further improvement proposals. In the Plan of improvements is contain of planned improvements to the machine as one of the factors that make the large number of defects untidy hemming.
Improvement in machine factor is by doing maintenance on the hemming machine. Maintenance performed using preventive maintenance method to find the optimal age of
hemming machine components. The result is a time to replacement parts and time to
inspection.
At do stage is implemented for a month. This implementation is doing periodic replacement of components in accordance with the optimal age of the machine in result of plan stage and periodically checks hemming machine with cleaning the machine and provide lubrication.
Check results stated that there is a decline in the number of defects for untidy hemming 1% according to the desired target company. But the improvement does not stop here to get a better result. In Action stage is search the problems that affect the large number of defective machines and the result is the machine factor is still the most
influential factor on the number of defects. Therefore, this action at this stage to give the
proposed improvements will be done to fix the problem this machine.
