Isi artikelThe British Performance Management Conference held in late January focused mainly on government priorities and interpretations of what performance management means for the DfES. At the heart of the department’s strategic vision was the linking of pay, financial resources and performance to raise standards. Alex Sevier, of the School Workforce Unit explained the rationale and current context for Performance Pay Progression. Richard Harrison, deputy director of the DfES School Workforce Unit explored Performance Management, Professional Development and School Improvement. Stephen Crowne, acting director of the Standards and Effectiveness Unit, focused on Performance Management and School Improvement. In addition John Turner, formerly senior education adviser at the DfES, but now director, education consultancy for Mouchel, explored the implications for LEAs of the Education Bill. Such a heavy concentration of speakers with a DfES policy focus guaranteed a very clear understanding of government priorities.
