Abstract
Each of these industrial workers would be familiar with the term low back pain or low back injury. The two terms mentioned above is a pain or injury to the
spine. According Ergonows in 2008, statistics report that approximately 20-30% of the total workers' compensation costs derived from low back pain.
NIOSH recommends the imposition of an equation in 1981 which was revised in 1991. NIOSH equation is derived from the western United States, where
the body of the western people have proved greater than the people asia especially Indonesia. Factor contained in the RWL based on research data on American workers and NIOSH review used in determining the multiplier factor is a partial review. So far, the formula or the results of research conducted by an overseas institution in Indonesia were applied without the adjustment. This can
cause errors in the load limit up to the Indonesian people, especially the Indonesian industrial workers who often carry the load.
In this study, using a sample of industrial workers of Indonesia, conducted the review as a whole in terms of psychophysical, physiological, and
biomechanics to determine the vertical reducer factors and vertical multipler factor from NIOSH equation. The results of this study is
- Rapture position under the height knuckle (0cm = V = 70.05cm):
VM = 1 – 0.005037 (70.05 – V)
- Rapture position above the height knuckle (70.05cm= V=165.83cm):
VM = 1 – 0.0004868(V – 70.05)
- V maximum height allowed is 165.83 cm.
