Abstract
The objective of this paper is to provide the weight limit recommendations of manual material handling for industrial workers based on heart rate criteria, knowing the effect of factors and the influence of factor levels of energy consumption required by the workers. The studies’s specialized for male workers
in their productive age and for the type of lowering task with variations of box size and vertical distance.
Data collection has done with measurement form, which is consist of identity data and research data. This research has collected the heart rate value of 10 research subjects for 18 types of activities. For the processing data, the maximum heart rate value is compared with the heart rate limits recommended by Dr Lucien Brouha that is 115 beats per minute to obtain the weight limits that is safe. The test of ANAVA and Tukey are performed to determine the effect of factors and the influence of factor levels of energy consumption required by the workers. The value of energy consumption is the result of the transformation of the heart rate value. Based on the result, it obtained the various work load recommendation for every combination of activities, is between 14 kgs to 22 kgs. The results of ANAVA show that lowering task factor, vertical distance factor, the interaction factor of the lowering task – vertical distance, and the interaction factor of box size – vertical distance give significant effect on the average of energy consumption. The results of Tukey show that the treatment of inter-levels lowering task factor and the treatment of inter-levels vertical distance factor give real influence of the research factor.
