Isi artikel
This paper examines a personal narrative, spoken in Mohawk, which occurred spontaneously in conversation. The analysis focuses on several linguistic features of narrative and on the social dynamics of participant interaction. It discusses recurrent linguistic features, especially the use of English, of direct quotation, and of Mohawk syntactic devices. The paper also discusses the ways in which speakers negotiate topic introduction and development, aiding each other in achieving personal and interactional goals.
