Isi artikelA large corpus of little known linguistic data exists for eighteenth century Central America. These are the censuses of the colonial era whose details reveal the movement of speakers of indigenous languages over great distances. This paper plots out the interaction networks for the regions of central and eastern Guatemala, tabulates the percentage of migrants from different (but mostly Mayan) language groups for a sample of 27 towns and discusses the implications of the different numbers of male and female aliens in a smaller sample of 5 towns.
