Isi artikel
The investigation of prothetic alif in Egyptian has led to the consideration of initial (two consonant) cluster retention or resolution throughout the phylum (Lislakh). Cluster resolution involves three main processes: (1) addition of ?V- to the cluster, (2) assimilation of the second consonant to a following vowel, (3) loss of one of the consonants. There may also be: (4) loss of a vowel mora. Examples are given of each process noted, as well as etymologies involving a number of families within the phylum.
