Abstract
Digestive tract is the largest human's body immunity organ which is linked directly with the outside of the human's body. Therefore it easily captures pathogen bacterias that cause disease. Probiotics which is contained inside various forms of food products can improve gastrointestinal health. Food producers claim that the probiotic products provide many benefits, one of these benefits is for people with high cholesterol levels. High cholesterol is a common problem in the developed countries and developing countries such as Indonesia. Blood cholesterol levels are thought to be decreased by giving probiotic. Based on the research that has been done, several mechanisms may underlie the blood cholesterol levels decreasing, including the ability of BSH contained in Lactobacillus sp. to reduce bile acid, anti-cholesterol by Lactobacillus sp. during the growth phase. To provide benefits in cholesterol reduction, the amount of probiotic microbes required may vary depending on the type of the microbes.
